Your Hair Growth Cycle...
There are 3 stages of hair growth.
1) The first is the Anagen stage. This is the stage of the cycle where new hair is produced and growing. 80 to 85% of all hair on the body will be in the Anagen stage at any one time.
2) The second stage is the Catagen stage, regression or falling out stage. Here, the hair detaches itself from the bulb and gets cut off from the blood supply which means that the hair no longer receives any nutrients. Only about 2-3% of the body’s hair will be in this stage at any one time.
3) The Telogen stage is the third stage, which is when the hair is at its fullest size. Only 15% of the body's hair will be in this stage at any given time.
Waxing and Synchronisation
The goal with waxing is to synchronize the stages of hair growth so the hairs are regenerated on roughly the same cycle. Therefore, over time, if you are consistent with your waxings, you will have longer periods of smoothness. Since most of the hair on the body is in the Anagen Stage at the same time, it makes it the perfect time in the hair growth cycle to wax.
In order to synchronize, a client should get waxed every 2 weeks or so for a few visits so that all the hair will have the chance to be removed by the root to end up at the same cycle. Once this is accomplished, regular waxing monthly is essential to be maintained.
Regular waxing results in the hair growing back softer, finer and thinner. It’s vital not to shave between waxing as this disrupts the growth cycle and therefore the thickness of the regrowth.
Therefore, maintaining waxing even during the winter months when we don’t need it as much is of absolute importance because if it’s not maintained, when you do want smooth legs come the warmer months, you’ll have to retrain your hair growth, which may take 2 to 3 months.
