Q
- What is IPL™?
A - IPL™ (Intense Pulse Light)
is the latest state-of-the-art advancement
of hair removal technology. It uses
the "full spectrum" of light
to treat the hair follicle. As technology
has progressed, research has shown
that IPL™ regularly achieves
better results than other techniques
currently available.
Q - How does IPL™ compare to
Laser?
A - Lasers use a single wavelength
of light specific to the requirements
of a wide range of applications. The
diameter of the round applicator used
for hair removal is about 5mm. IPL™
uses the "Full Spectrum"
of light with filters to remove unwanted
wavelengths (UVA and infra red). The
IPL™ applicator has a large
50mm x 10mm pure glass waveguide,
which combined with a coupling gel
ensures an efficient and comfortable
procedure, greatly reducing the time
for each treatment.
Q - How does IPL™ work?
A - Energy from light is absorbed
by the melamine in the hair and converted
to heat, which disables new hair growth
when the temperature reaches 70 °C.
Q - Is IPL™ hair removal permanent?
A - The hair follicle disabled by
this form of treatment is permanent.
The Energist Ultra IPL™ is capable
of effective and permanent reduction
of hair, best thought of as hair management.
Hair grows in three phases and only
hair in the growing phase can be treated.
The volume of hair will not affect
the treatment, but high levels of
hormones will increase new hair growth.
Q - Does V.P.L.TM treatment hurt?
A - Unfortunately there may be an
element of discomfort described as
"the snapping of a rubber band
against the skin or being flicked
by a hair brush" but generally
the Energist Ultra IPL™ system
should be a comfortable procedure.
The higher the concentration of hair
and the level of pigmentation in the
skin may have an effect to the sensation
of the treatment. Consequently a male
with dense hair on his neck line with
a sun tan would probably find the
treatment less comfortable than a
woman having under arm treatment in
this un-tanned area. This may explain
why some people report no discomfort
at all.
Q - What areas of the body can be
treated?
A - Just about any and all parts of
the body can be treated. Hair removal
is sequential and controlled, so you
may choose only a partial thinning
of hair, (males Back), Strips (Brazilian),
or total (under arms)
Q - How many treatments will I need?
A - The success of each treatment
depends on many factors including
the hair’s colour and texture,
skin colour, pigmentation, sun tans
and hormones. The higher the contrast
between hair colour and skin colour
the better. Most people will be delighted
with 3-5 treatments.
Q - How long does a treatment take?
A - The applicators glass head is
20 times larger than a laser, so a
male's full back can be treated in
about 60 minutes. Both underarms would
take less than 10 minutes.
Q - Can I switch from other treatments
to the Energist Ultra IPL™ System?
A - Lasers and I.P.L. are sequential
hair removal treatments, so you may
choose just a partial thinning of
hair or switch to the Energist Ultra
IPL™ new generation system to
achieve your desired result.
Q - What should I do before treatment?
A - You may wax but this should be
done 4 weeks before the start of treatment.
Avoid active tanning 2 weeks before
treatment but shave or shape (bikini
line) the area a day before treatment.
Do not apply make up or deodorant.
Wear clothing that will allow easy
access to the area to be treated,
white cotton pants are best for the
bikini area.
Q - Can I bring a friend?
A - You may bring a friend to any
of your appointments.
Q - What can I expect after treatment?
A - Immediately after treatment you
may experience some redness. This
indicates a successful treatment but
should go within the hour. You can
return to your daily activities immediately
avoiding strong sunlight and tanning
for a week.
Q - Can I shave between treatments?
A - Absolutely. Shaving only removes
surface hair and has no effect on
the procedure.
